Lexicon

As a reminder, we have a flare in our family for messing with words. Some whole genres are named after our children. Colleen-a-lisms include calling our floor futon a tofu, or referring to previews of movies as preemos and instead of a girl and a boy going steady, they were going study.

Our toddlers struggling to communicate gave things funny names that have stuck through the years- oohoos are shoes; fuzzy ducks- footed sleepers; wawa- nickname for Lauren; heping- when children are not helping and you do not want to hurt their feelings as you call for their removal. I am sure you all can think of more.

Lauren was telling me of a time when she was driving with Katie. Katie was driving faster than she was comfortable and exclaimed "Slow down! I have my hands in your life!!!" Then there was the time they were pulling in to the gas station to get a 'gas of tank'.

We now have a new one to add to our language. Kettlecorn. What you may ask does that mean? It is a descriptive way of saying that something is sweet but corney.

Let me tell you how this came into be. I was with Lauren, Ian and Daniel at a store when we ran into one of Lauren's girlfriends. They retreated to the parking lot to chat while we took care of our business. We joined them when we were done and were interupted when the girl's boyfriend called on the cell phone to tell her he just wanted to hear her voice. Ian said that was so lame. We told him to take notes, because that worked for girls. He still voiced his opinion that it was corney, Lauren argued that it was sweet and maybe a bit corney---thus the term kettlecorn was coined.

Since then we have had multiple times when kettlecorn has been the perfect word to describe an event. "Oh, it was so kettlecorn!" Go ahead, try it out the next time something is sweet but corney.
